Dark chocolate may lower stroke risk in women

LOS ANGELES

Cocoa has antioxidant properties that can suppress bad cholesterol which can cause heart disease, including stroke.

Researchers studied more than 33,000 Swedish women between the ages of 49 and 83 years old. Women who ate the most chocolate, about two candy bars a week, had a 20 percent lower risk of stroke.

The study is in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
