OTRC: Taylor Swift is named Billboard Woman of the Year

Taylor Swift has outsold any other artist in the past 12 months to earn the title of 2011 Billboard Woman of the Year, it was announced by on Tuesday, October 11. Swift will receive an official award for the honor at the 2011 Billboard Women in Music event on December 2, according to Billboard magazine.

At 21, Swift is the youngest artist to receive the honor. Her third studio album "Speak Now," which was released in October 2010, has sold over five million copies, including one million in its debut week.

The singer has largely spent most of 2011 on tour for the album. She was snubbed from the 2011 Grammy Awards and did not receive a nomination. Swift does however, already have four Grammy Awards to her credit.

Earlier this month Swift was joined onstage at her concert in Atlanta by rapper T.I. Swift introduced T.I. at the end of her set by singing the opening chorus of the rapper's hit, "Live Your Life."

"Taylor has shown the power of good songwriting with music that has transcended genres, and we're thrilled to recognize all of her successes over the past year by honoring her with the Billboard Woman of the Year Award," Bill Werde, Billboard's Editorial Director said in a statement. "At the young age of 21, Taylor has already made a major impact on music and has been an incredible role model for aspiring singers/songwriters and young women everywhere. I look forward to watching her career continue to flourish in the years to come."

In 2010, Swift was named "Entertainer of the Year" by Entertainment Weekly and is currently nominated for six Country Music Association Awards. In 2010, Billboard named Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie as the recipient of the 2010 Woman of the Year Award.
