Javier Bardem took home an Oscar for portraying a villain in "No Country for Old Men" and now the actor is going bad again for the upcoming James Bond film.
"I'm very excited because my parents took me to watch the movies and I saw all of them. So to play that is going to be fun," Bardem told ABC's "Nightline" on October 11. "They chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details."
Daniel Craig will reprise his role as James Bond in the film, which is rumored to be named "Skyfall," but has the working title of "Bond 23." French actress Bérénice Marlohe has signed on to be the next Bond Girl, in her first English-speaking role, according to film's IMDB page. Also joining the cast is "Pirates of the Caribbean" actress Naomie Harris, who has signed on to portray Moneypenny and Ralph Fiennes, in an undisclosed role.
Bardem, 41, won an Oscar for his supporting role in the 2007 film "No Country for Old Men" and received his third Academy Award nomination in 2011 for his leading role in "Biutiful." The Award went to Colin Firth for his role in "The King's Speech."
In "Biutiful," a film in the actor's native Spanish, Bardem plays a dying crime boss and father who is involved in the underworld of Barcelona and struggles with love, spirituality, crime, mortality and sacrifice. Bardem told OnTheRedCarpet.com in December that starring in "Biutiful" was a "very rewarding journey," but that shooting the romantic drama "Eat Pray Love" in Bali afterwards helped him get over the emotionally draining experience.
"It took me at least six months to really get back to my feet," he said at a recent luncheon honoring the nominees of the 2011 Academy Awards. "That's something that happens unconsciously. It's not that you change .. you start to act or behave or even say some words that really don't belong to yourself anymore."
Bardem sported a side-swept pageboy haircut in his role as an assassin in the 2007 movie "No Country For Old Men." The actor said he would love to with directors Joel and Ethan Coen again.
Bardem also welcomed other happy news - his actress-wife Penelope Cruz welcomed their first child, a son, in January.
