Hayden Panettiere told OnTheRedCarpet.com recently that her "wild role" in "Fireflies in the Garden," reminds her of her own childhood experiences with her mother.
"Fireflies in the Garden," which opened in theaters October 14, chronicles the lives of the Taylor's after a terrible accident leads to great loss in their family, encouraging long-growing tensions and issues to surface. Julia Roberts stars as Lisa Taylor, wife to college professor Charlie, who is played by Willem Dafoe. Ryan Reynolds plays Michael Taylor, the grown up son of the couple and Panettiere plays Jane Lawrence, the younger sister of Roberts' character in flashbacks.
"It's very true to form," Panettiere told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the premiere of the film last week. "I find that a lot of the time there are certain aspects of you that are very adult and can be very mature. My mom used to tell me this all the time, and I used to get really upset with her when she would tell me that, but there were certain aspects of my personality that were mature, and certain that were just insanely childish."
The 22-year-old starlet went on to describe her excitement that the film is finally being released, and discusses how she has gained a "new perspective" on the film in the time that has passed.
"I could have never been able to imagine that we were going to be walking down this red carpet and that it was actually going to come into fruition this way - It's a cool feeling," Panettiere added. "It's a really, really cool feeling. It's cool too to have this kind of perspective on it - you know, we're years down the road after filming it, and it's a very different perspective on the film and the experience in its entirety."
Panettiere's character, Lawrence, has to not only deal with tragedy, but also playing multiple roles within the family structure.
"I know, it's a wild role that she plays in this family - she's holds the title of an adult yet is not an adult, she's a child," Panettiere added. "That allows her the little edge that she has - that lack of fear towards Charlie, and it's a different dynamic."
The American actress and singer received acclaim for her portrayal of Sheryl Yoast in Disney's "Remember the Titans," but truly achieved fame with her role as cheerleader Claire Bennet on the NBC television series "Heroes." More recently, Panettiere played Beth Cooper in the 2009 film "I Love You, Beth Cooper!" and Kirby Reed in the 2011 film "Scream 4."
"It's a true, compelling story," Panettiere added. "It's a story of this broken family that are brought together by this tragedy. And the acting really is wonderful in it, and you know we all put a lot of hard work into it."
