USDA to limit potatoes in school lunches

The U.S. Department of Agriculture wants to limit how many potatoes kids eat each week in their school lunches.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture wants to limit how many potatoes kids eat each week in their school lunches.

Limiting the starchy vegetable is part of the USDA's effort to cut the caloric intake of school kids.

On Monday, senators from potato states like Maine, Idaho and Colorado plan to try and block the rule with an amendment to the 2012 agriculture spending bill.

The change would cost schools about 14 cents more per meal.
