Karina Smirnoff and her fiance, baseball player Brad Penny, have postponed their 2012 wedding, OnTheRedCarpet.com confirmed on Monday, October 17.
"It's just that we've been apart for over two months now without seeing each other," Smirnoff told KABC-TV, OnTheRedCarpet.com's parent company. "It was impossible to plan a wedding like that. So we decided that it would be best to wait."
Smirnoff, 33, added that the decision to postpone the wedding was mutual. The couple began dating in October 2009 and became engaged in October 2010. The two were set to wed on January 21, 2012.
Penny is a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. Smirnoff is currently competing on the 13th season of "Dancing With The Stars" and is partnered with former "All My Children" actor J.R. Martinez.
Smirnoff and Martinez are one of the top pairs on the show this season and received 26 out of 30 from the judges for their "Pink Panther" inspired Foxtrot in week 4 of ABC's hit celebrity ballroom dancing series.
