New recommendations are out for screening children for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

The American Academy of Pediatrics has expanded the age range for diagnosis and treatment to children between 4 and 18 years old. Previous guidelines were from ages 6 to 12.

For the youngest children, the academy is emphasizing the use of behavior treatments over medication.

However critics fear the new recommendations will lead to younger children taking unnecessary medications.
