Michelle Monaghan revealed in a new interview with Health magazine that she has battled skin cancer.
The 35-year-old actress met her husband, Australian graphic designer Peter White in 2000. The couple got married in 2005 and Monaghan has her perceptive husband to thank for finding the cancerous mole.
"He gets me on every level. During 'that time of the month,' he knows to bring me a Snickers bar. He's good like that!" Monaghan told Health magazine. "And a few years ago I had a mole on the back of my calf, and he was adamant that I get it checked. In Australia, they're very aware of skin cancer."
"I finally went and it was skin cancer," Monaghan continued. "I had quite the chunk taken out of my leg. I'm so grateful he noticed it. I clearly now realize he has a keen eye and wonder what other imperfections he's noticing!"
Monaghan and White welcomed their daughter Willow Katherine White on November 5, 2008.
Monaghan recently starred opposite Gerard Butler in "Machine Gun Preacher, which opened in theaters on September 23. The film is based on the true story of Sam Childers, a man who decides to leave his outlaw life (and wife played by Monaghan) behind in order to crusade for hundreds of Sudanese children who've been forced to become soldiers.
The actress got her big break co-starring in a season of Fox's "Boston Public." Monaghan has also starred in the black comedy "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and opposite Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible III." In 2008, she starred in the romantic comedy "Made of Honor" and "Eagle Eye." Monaghan also appeared opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in "Source Code," which hit theaters in April.
