Bear breaks into Tenn. candy shop, noshes on sweets

GATLINBURG, Tenn.

Some Gatlinburg residents are calling it a "grizzly" burglary. The bear apparently has a serious sweet tooth.

Surveillance video and a photo captured the bear after it broke into a sweet shop called the Ole Smokey Candy Kitchen on Wednesday.

Employees said the bear shattered the glass and came through the front door. They ran for cover and called police.

"I said, 'Dorothy let's get out of here. There's something in here.' I think it's a bear because we've had a bear hanging around out in the parking lot all summer," said employee Gwatha Kear.

"He just started making a racket and the bear ran out the back door and cut through the parking lot," described Gatlinburg resident Stoney Sharp.

Employees said the bear feasted on caramel apples, pecan logs and rock candy before police scared it away.
