Oxnard Police Department officers arrested Nathan Lamont Preston at about 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 1600 block of N. Rose Avenue.
Authorities say Preston's mother, Sheryl Tye, was murdered Oct. 9 in the 2000 block of North Ventura Road. The investigation is still active, and officials have yet to reveal details of how Tye was killed.
Preston was booked into Ventura County Jail for murder. His bail was set at $500,000.
