About 100 teachers marched out of the Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles to LAUSD headquarters.
Teachers have joined forces with the /*Occupy L.A.*/ movement to express concern about teacher layoffs, overcrowded classrooms, and other education issues. They contend students are being hurt by funding cuts.
There's also another pressing issue. Occupy L.A. organizers said that homeless people are starting to move into the tents, taking advantage of the food, shelter and other services.
"We know that skid row is just a few blocks from here and there is 10,000 to 15,000 people living on the streets every single night," said protester Clark Davis. "There's no doubt about it that some people are migrating over here. We don't want to necessarily turn them away. What we ask from the people that are turning up that are truly homeless is that they help us out."
A rally was scheduled once protesters arrived at LAUSD headquarters. They are showing their support to the many teachers who've been camping out for the last four days at district headquarters.
