NorCal officer critically wounded in shooting

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

The shooting happened after a car chase and foot chase. The officer was trying to pull a vehicle over in the Sacramento area at about 2 p.m. Saturday.

Sacramento Police Department spokesman Sgt. Andrew Pettit said 32-year-old suspect Tyron Smith was arrested at about 11:10 p.m. Saturday a few blocks away from the shooting site.

"We got him in custody," Pettit told the Sacramento Bee.

Authorities said the wounded 25-year-old officer was in critical but stable condition after surgery at the UC Davis Medical Center.
