Chaz Bono talks to OnTheRedCarpet.com after the sixth elimination on season 13 of 'Dancing With The Stars.'

Warning: Spoilers ahead. Chaz Bono's casting on the 13th season of "Dancing With The Stars" was controversial from the start and the LGBT activist set out to win the hearts television audiences. Though it was an uphill battle, Bono said his time on the show was "a life-changing experience."

After an intense performance on "Dancing With The Stars" on Monday, October 24 to a tune from "Phantom of the Opera," Bono scored low on his Tango and was eliminated from the ballroom on Tuesday, October 25.

"I'm sad to go but it was an amazing experience," Bono, 42, told OnTheRedCarpet.com on Tuesday after the results show. "There's a joy that I have in this whole experience. This truly was a life-changing experience."

"I mean, before I did the show, everybody, you know, who's had people on it said they said it changed their lives and it changed my life," he added. "I'll forever be grateful that I did the show. It was amazing."

Bono was born Chastity Bono, the daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono. In March 2009, he began the process of becoming a man.

Bono added that he's learned "just how much I can do, how much I'm capable of, how much I can overcome" by going through the competition. "I really had no idea until I was challenged on every level, which this show does," he added.

Bono and Schwimmer seemed to be put to the test on Monday after the judges criticized Bono's lack of growth as a dancer. Judge Bruno Tonioli compared Bonoto a penguin and Bono and Schwimmer were given a 19 out of 30 for their performance.

"The first week, no one expected this guy to do a step on the dance floor," Schwimmer said. "So to be able to get him to move and dance and remember routines and wear sparkles and, you know, go out there and have fun doing it, it just makes me feel really good."

On Monday, Bono told OnTheRedCarpet.com, "I feel like I've been getting low scores all season, markedly lower than a lot of people?I felt like tonight was the icing on the cake. I'm just being honest."

"Well to clear it up, the dance we thought was great. We were pleased with the dance," Schwimmer said when asked to clarify the pair's mood during Monday's interview. "A couple of the judges not so much. That's it."
