Betty Weickert's ashes were left in a bag inside an SUV parked at the Westfield Shopping Center in Woodland Hills. Other pieces of luggage were also stolen from the vehicle.
"Just imagine it's your own family member, how you would feel? It's a violating feeling to begin with, but then the fact it's such a personal item and something that we can never replace, and we just want to still fulfill her last wish," said Katie Powell, Weickert's granddaughter.
Weickert's family was scheduled to fly back East to fulfill their grandmother's final wish to be buried near her deceased husband.
