$439,438 grant to be used in Badlands restoration

MORENO VALLEY, Calif.

The Badlands, which separate Moreno Valley from Beaumont, have been damaged in recent years due to illegal off-roading that has left the hillsides scarred.

The grant will be used to revitalize 279 acres of the land with native vegetiation, such as trees and shrubs, as well as to reduce erosion and restore habitat for native species.

Fences will also be erected, complete with signs that will suggest other nearby places which allow off-roading activities.

The Badlands project will begin in November 2012 and is expected to be complete in 2015.
