Roommate arrested in Riverside woman's murder

RIVERSIDE, Calif.

The Riverside Police Department received a call Friday from family members of Laverna Brown, saying she never arrived as scheduled on a flight from Ontario to an airport in Georgia for a family visit.

As the investigation developed, officers determined Brown's disappearance involved foul play.

Clues led investigators to Brown's missing vehicle Saturday in a parking lot on Fremont Street between Central and Mountain View avenues across from the Riverside Auto Auction north of the Riverside Airport.

Brown's body was found inside her vehicle. Investigators determined she was murdered.

Police interviewed two suspects in Brown's murder investigation - Ruthetta Lois Hobson, 39, who was Brown's roommate, and Julius Patrick Thomas, 30, of Jurupa Valley. The two were arrested for murder and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.

If you have any information regarding this incident, you're urged to contact Riverside police.
