In her native country of Italy, Elisabetta Canalis is famous for being a television personality and model. In America, the former "Dancing With The Stars" contestant is likely best known for dating George Clooney.
While Canalis mostly kept quiet about her time with Clooney while on "Dancing With The Stars" she recently offered some details about their relationship in a new book by Italian journalist Bruno Vespa called "This Love."
Canalis reportedly told Vespa, according to People magazine, that Clooney "has been a special for me, and very important, just as a father would be." She added, "Between us there was more of a father-daughter relationship. I was unable to clarify this up 'til now."
Clooney and Canalis dated from June 2009 to June 2011. The model and television personality also denied that their relationship ended because she wanted to be married. "George and I never spoke of marriage nor of having kids," she said. "I don't put limits to the possibility of having them, but neither George nor I had ever envisaged having kids together. The end of the relationship was not caused by a marriage issue, but instead by our personal needs."
She added, "George is a real gentleman even in his private life." Canalis continued, "I was very much respected both as a woman and partner."
In September, Clooney defended Canalis against reports that she was sending him harsh text messages for moving on with Stacy Keibler. The actor issued a statement to TMZ which said that the stories were "completely fabricated in order to sell magazines. I never comment on my personal life unless it affects others... and this lie affects others."
"Since I would be the only actual witness, I ask you to correct your story immediately, but that would assume you cared at all about telling the truth," Clooney continued.
Canalis and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, became the second pair to be eliminated from the 13th season of "Dancing With The Stars" on September 27, 2011.
