A new Amy Winehouse album is set to be released in December, months after the soul singer died at age 27.
The record is called "Lioness: Hidden Treasures" and will include 12 tracks, including unreleased songs and alternative versions of some of the Grammy winner's known hits. The album was compiled by her long-time musical partners, producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, in "close association" with the British singer's family, management and record label Island Records.
"'Lioness: Hidden Treasures' proves a fitting tribute to the artist, the talent and the woman and serves as a reminder of Amy's extraordinary powers as a songwriter, a singer and an interpreter of classics," the company said in a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com on Monday, October 31.
"It was said by all who worked with Amy that she never sang or played a song the same way twice," it added. "It quickly became apparent to Salaam and Mark that they had a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting testament to Amy the artist and, as importantly, Amy their friend."
The album, Winehouse's third major studio record, contains the singer's recently-released duet with Tony Bennett, "Body & Soul" as well as a cover of the Carol King song, "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow." Part of the profits made from the record's sales are set to go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity her family set up after her death, which helps disadvantaged children and young adults.
Winehouse was found dead in her London apartment on July 23. A judicial inquiry found last week that the singer, known for sporting a fake beehive and for her lengthy battle with substance abuse, died of accidental alcohol poisoning.
It was announced earlier this month that Winehouse's father, Mitch, signed a deal with Harper Collins to write a book about his daughter. It is set to be released in the summer of 2012. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Proceeds from the book are also set to be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
