Hugh Grant, star of films such as "About A Boy," has welcomed his first baby, a girl.
The 51-year-old British actor has not revealed the name of the child or the identity of her mother and has also not confirmed any recent relationships.
"Hugh Grant is the delighted father of a baby girl," the actor's spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com in a statement on Tuesday, November 1. "He and the mother had a fleeting affair and while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive. He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms."
Grant has never been married. He was last linked romantically to Chinese actress Tinglan Hong, 31. The two have not confirmed a relationship and she has not commented about news of the birth of Grant's daughter.
Grant and Hong were seen together in celebrity photographs in April, as seen in the UK newspaper The Daily Mail, which reported that the two have been dating since January.
Grant has had past relationshipships with actress Elizabeth Hurley and socialite and writer Jemima Khan. He and Hurley dated for about 13 years and even weathered through a much-publicized sex scandal - he was arrested in 1995 for soliciting a prostitute. He and the actress broke up in 2000. Grant dated Khan between 2004 and 2007.
Grant's love life and scandal have often dominated tabloid headlines. Earlier this year, he helped spearhead a legal battle against one such publication, the UK newspaper News of the World, which was the focus of a celebrity phone hacking scandal. The tabloid shut down in July.
Grant rose to fame as the male lead in the 1994 romantic film "Four Weddings and a Funeral" and later went on to star in the 2001 film "Bridget Jones' Diary" and its 2004 sequel alongside Renee Zellweger.
He recently appeared opposite Sarah Jessica Parker in the romantic comedy "Did You Hear About the Morgans?" and is currently filming "Cloud Atlas," a 2012 film that also stars Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon and Halle Berry.
