Harold & Kumar: Grown up and in 3-D

LOS ANGELES

Like the title implies, this time it has a Christmas theme and it's in 3-D. But there's more to it.

"The characters now are six years older than the first two movies and our audience is also grown up," said Kal Penn, who plays Kumar. "The core audience that enjoyed these movies when they were 21 or 22 now they're settling down, now they're dealing with the same issues that Harold and Kumar are dealing with in these movies. We were hoping we could still retain that sense of bizarre humor and age with them."

"It's such an interesting thing for me to have them age now and to see these two best friends go in different paths and try to preserve the friendship through different circumstances," said John Cho, who plays Harold.

Since the last Harold & Kumar comedy, both Cho and Penn have been busy.

Cho starred in the ultra-successful "Star Trek" reboot and Penn worked for years in the Obama White House.

You'll see sly references to both in the film.

"We're very proud of the work that we've had the opportunity to do in the interim, but we can't take ourselves too seriously in these movies." Penn said.

Sharing the screen with Cho and Penn for his third cameo is Neil Patrick Harris.

"A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas" is in theaters now.
