Newport Beach police are searching for a man they said tried to pull down a statue of Ronald Reagan at a city park on Sunday.

Police were called to Bonita Canyon Sports Park on Ford Road just after 5:30 a.m. According to police, a witness said a man had attached a chain from the back of his pickup truck to the base of the bronze statue apparently to bring it down from where it stood.

The man was last seen driving off in an early 2000s tan pickup truck with an extended cab.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Newport Beach Police Department.
