OTRC: Dean Cain: Henry Cavill will probably do a 'fantastic job' as Superman in 'Man of Steel' (Video)

Dean Cain talked to On The Red Carpet host Chris Balish at the premiere of 'Immortals' in Los Angeles on Nov. 7, 2011.

Dean Cain has nothing but nice things to say Henry Cavill, who will fill his old shoes, or boots, as the new Superman in an upcoming reboot.

Cain, a 45-year-old actor who played the superhero on the 1990s action series "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," made his comments at the recent Los Angeles premiere of Cavill's new film, "Immortals," which was released on Friday November 11.

Zach Snyder's new "Superman" film, "Man of Steel," is due to hit theaters in 2013. Cavill, 28, and the rest of the cast, which includes Kevin Costner, Julia Ormond and Russell Crowe, began filming the movie in July. A photo of Cavill donning the famous Superman costume was released in August.

"I think it'll be a nice rebirth of the franchise," Cain told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish. "I think (Cavill will) probably do a fantastic job. I really have no idea though, ask me after I see it and I can tell you a lot more. The role is a big, giant role, there's so much to it. He's a classically trained Brit so I understand. I think he's going to be fine. The challenges for him are going to be miniscule."

In "Immortals," Cavill plays the hero Theseus, a mortal who is chosen by the god Zeus to lead the fight against the evil King Hyperion, portrayed by Mickey Rourke, who is set on destroying humanity.

"I want to see this in this film, see how it goes - I want to see how Henry does," Cain told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish. "I get a lot of questions about that kid, he's taking over the Superman mantle - I've never seen him in a film, and the film looks great, and I want to check it out and just see it. They wouldn't have cast him, I don't think, unless he was somebody with some substance."

Cavill rose to fame playing Charles Brandon on the R-rated Showtime series "The Tudors," starting in 2007. He has also appeared in films such as "Stardust" in 2007 and "The Count of Monte Cristo" in 2002.

Cavill made news recently with his engagement to girlfriend Ellen Whitaker, who is a fellow British native.

"Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" aired between 1993 and 1997 and starred Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane, the fiesty reporter colleague and love interest of Superman's alter ego, Clark Kent. After the show ended, Cain had small parts in films and continued his television career. He played Jack Ellis on the series "The Division," Larry Walker on the sitcom "Hope & Faith" and Casey Manning in "Las Vegas."

Cain recently filmed the movie "Home Run Showdown" with Matthew Lillard and the thriller "Mind's Eye" with Malcolm McDowell and is also set to appear in the film "Chrysalis" with Eric Roberts.
