Ed Westwick says the makeup used to transform Leonardio DiCaprio into J. Edgar Hoover in the new biopic "J. Edgar" "freaked" him out.
The film is directed by Clint Eastwood and explores the career and personal life of the famous FBI director. Westwick, a 24-year-old British actor best known for his role as the devious Chuck Bass in the CW drama series "Gossip Girl," plays an FBI agent. The film was released on Wednesday, November 9.
"It freaked me out absolutely," Westwick told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish at the Los Angeles premiere of the film, regarding DiCaprio's makeup.
"I remember when I met Leo on the set and he came over as the old J. Edgar Hoover, and it was daunting - very difficult to tell it was him except for his eyes," Westwick said. "He has very strong eyes. It was a remarkable job, I mean there's got to be an Oscar in there for the people who did the makeup for sure."
While Hoover was seen by many as one of the most powerful men in America, he was also a man of many secrets. His right-hand man, Clyde Tolson, was also rumored to be his lover. He is played by Armie Hammer of "The Social Network" fame. Naomi Watts also stars in "J. Edgar," playing the man's trusted secretary.
Westwick said his own character is "an agent from the PR department for the FBI who was writing with Hoover, and then gets fired."
