Armie Hammer says Clint Eastwood's new film "J. Edgar," which sees him playing the rumored lover of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, is a "brilliantly told story."
The biopic stars Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role and is set for release on Wednesday, November 9. Hammer, who famously portrayed the Winkelvoss twins in the 2010 film "The Social Network," portrays Hoover's right-hand man Clyde Tolson. He and Hoover were reported to have had a romantic affair.
"I'm proud of the project as a whole, definitely, and even the fact that I got to be a part of it is amazing," Hammer told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish at the recent Los Angeles premiere of the film. "I don't look at this and go, 'Yay Armie,' or anything like that, but I'm happy with the movie, absolutely."
When asked what adds to the film's appeal, the 25-year-old actor had a few to credit.
"Leonardo DiCaprio," Hammer added. "On top of that, it's an amazingly dense and historical drama that's full of, jeez, I mean a lot of the same serious issues that we deal with now, and a lot of things that affects us as a people now. I mean, it's a brilliantly told story."
"J. Edgar" also stars Naomi Watts as Hoover's trusted secretary, while "Gossip Girl" actor Ed Westwick plays an FBI agent.
Hammer has made headlines recently for being cast in two highly-anticipated upcoming films. Hammer is set to play the prince in Brett Ratner's "Snow White" film, which stars Julia Roberts as the evil queen. The actor is also working on Disney's reboot of "The Lone Ranger" alongside Johnny Depp. The film is set for release in 2013.
