Newport spa locker burglary suspect arrested

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.

A locker at the Island Hotel Spa was burglarized on Sept. 11. Credit cards stolen from the locker were later used to purchase items at Fashion Island in Newport Beach.

Police then alerted area businesses of the burglary method and a suspect description.

On Friday, a Marriott Hotel employee called police to report a man fitting the suspect description of the Sept. 11 burglar was at the hotel.

The employee recognized the suspect, Raines, when he tried to make a spa appointment at the hotel, then asked to use the restroom in the spa. The employee denied Raines's access.

The employee watched Raines depart and board a bus at Newport Center and Santa Barbara drives. Police stopped the bus and arrested Raines without incident.

Newport Beach Police detectives believe Raines may have committed similar crimes in the area.

Anyone with information related to the case should contact Detective Brad Miller at (949) 644-3767.
