UPS rate hikes to take effect January 2012

ATLANTA

UPS Inc. announced higher rates for most shipping services beginning Jan.2.

Ground shipments within the U.S. and air shipments from the U.S. to overseas destinations are going up by 4.9 percent.

Next-day and second-day air freight in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico is going up by 5.9 percent.

UPS had raised its freight unit prices 6.9 percent for shipments in the U.S., Canada and Mexico on Aug. 1. The freight unit moves heavier shipments like refrigerators.

There is some good news. UPS is dropping its fuel surcharge by up to 2 percent next year.
