OTRC: Jeremy Renner talks 'Bourne Legacy,' first sequel without Matt Damon (Spoilers)

Jeremy Renner speaks to OnTheRedCarpet.com in January 2011.

Jeremy Renner has revealed some details about the new "Bourne" spy film, "The Bourne Legacy," and compares it to the previous three installments that starred Matt Damon.

The 40-year-old California native, known for his roles in films such as "The Hurt Locker" and "The Avengers," made his comments to Empire magazine in an interview posted on Tuesday. November 22. "The Bourne Legacy" is the first movie in the series without Damon playing the part of the title character and focuses on a new CIA operative, played by Renner.

Potential spoiler alert!

"My character is called Aaron Cross," Renner said, "But he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, ['The Bourne Legacy'] has that same ticking clock, but it's a new program and new characters."

"The Bourne Legacy" also stars Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz and hits theaters in August 2012.

Renner told Empire magazine that Treadstone, a top-secret CIA black ops program that trains assassins, namely Bourne, has a presence in the new film, adding: "Yeah, it's that same deal, it's just a new set of agents with a different leash. It's the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you'll know it's a 'Bourne' movie."

Damon told OnTheRedCarpet.com in February that while he does not appear in "The Bourne Legacy," he would like to reprise his role as Bourne in a future movie in the series. In the past year, the father of four has focused on his family and starred in several other films, including "The Adjustment Bureau," "Contagion" and most recently, the Cameron Crowe movie "We Bought A Zoo," starring Scarlett Johansson.

Meanwhile, you can catch Renner in another spy film - the fourth "Mission: Impossible" movie, "Ghost Protocol," which sees Tom Cruise reprising his role as Ethan Hunt. The film hits theaters on December 21.

Renner told OnTheRedCarpet.com in February that Cruise, who performed several death-defying stunts, "teaches me a lot."

Renner also recently filmed "The Avengers." He plays Hawkeye, part of an extensive ensemble of superheroes, alongside actors such as Robert Downey Jr., who reprises his role as Iron Man, and Johansson, who slips back into her "Iron Man 2" catsuit to portray the Black Widow. "The Avengers" is set for release on May 4, 2012.
