Security bolstered for USC-UCLA showdown

LOS ANGELES

The partying went on as usual. Excited USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins fans tailgated before the big showdown on the football field.

Security, however, was unusually heavy. Police officers on foot, bicycles and in squad cars patrolled the parking lots and grounds surrounding the Coliseum

Security was up by more than 25 percent compared to last year, when a fight broke out between dozens of Bruins and Trojans fans at the Rose Bowl. Two people were stabbed during that melee.

This time around, fans arrived early and spent hours tailgating. When 7:15 p.m. hit, fans without tickets were told to move along.

USC won the game 50-0.
