OTRC: Prince William takes part in sea rescue, helps save two lives

Prince William, son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, turns 30 on June 21, 2012. He will receive a birthday present of about 10 million pounds sterling, or $15.7 million, which is the amount his mother left him in an inheritance fund, after taxes were deducted and interest was added. According to Hello! magazine, which has covered the British Royals extensively for years, Diana's will called for the bulk of her estate to be held in a trust for William and his brother Harry and then given to them when they turned 25. After she died, executors changed the inheritance age to 30, the outlet says. Check out photos of Prince William and his mother through the years. Prince William used his military helicopter training to good use during a rescue mission on November 27, where he saved the lives of two Russian ship crew memebers in the Irish Sea.

Prince William, who is serving as Flight Lt. William Wales in the Royal Air Force, was the co-pilot of the four-man helicopter rescue that saved two survivors of the Swanland vessel, which sank off the cost of the Irish sea after the hull cracked during the night off of the coast of North Wales according to BBC news.

The two men they found were airlifted to safety at William's base RAF Valley on Anglesey, an island off the coast of Wales. Five crew members are still missing, and one additional crew member was recovered in the early morning hours but his condition has not been confirmed.

"We know that at least some of [the missing] are wearing immersion suits and have strobe lighting with them," Jim Green, a coastguard spokesman, said Sunday according to BBC news. "However, sea conditions are challenging at best."

William became a search and rescue pilot with the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force after graduating from a training course in September 2010.

Prince Harry is currently undergoing military helicopter training, and will has spent the last two months in the United States to complete it.

Prince Harry, who is known as "Captain Wales" in the army, also completed an eight-month helicopter training course that began in July 2010. He will join an Apache unit in Britain, when he returns home in December.

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, were married in April of 2011. The royal affair occurred at Westminster Abbey in front of 1,900 people, and the ceremony was watched by an estimated 2 billion people across the globe.

The pair recently visited California in April 2011, marking the prince's first official visit to the United States, and Middleton's first time in the country.
