Death penalty in Home Depot manager's murder

SANTA ANA, Calif.

Even at Monday's sentencing, Jason Russell Richardson yelled out his innocence while his victim's wife talked.

Richardson was convicted of killing 40-year-old Tom Egan during a robbery in 2007.

Egan put himself between the gunman and fellow employees urging the masked robber not to hurt anyone.

Richardson, 40, was convicted in April 2010 of killing Egan during a 2007 robbery at The Home Depot that was carried out just minutes before Egan finished working on what was normally his day off.

On Oct. 26, a separate jury recommended the death penalty, after two previous juries were unable to reach a unanimous decision.
