A tribute was held Monday to a longtime member of the LAPD who died unexpectedly at the age of 53 two years ago.

The Florence Avenue exits off the Harbor Freeway will now bear the name of LAPD Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner.

Garner was praised by LAPD Chief Charlie Beck for his impact on the community and the department over 32 years.

Garner was a strong supporter of community organizations. His mother was at the tribute Monday to share in the honor.
