Colton couple attacked at home by naked man

COLTON, Calif.

Police said Ruben Arzu was on the run after beating Leo Rubio and his wife on their front porch as they arrived home from a party Saturday night. The couple's 10-year-old son was with them.

"From what I understand, he's a bodybuilder, approximately 250 pounds, and the confrontation was violent," said Cpl. Ray Mendez of the Colton Police Department.

Police said Rubio's wife went inside to call 911 then ran back out to help her husband. They said that's when Arzu attacked her.

The beating left Rubio with a broken jaw and his wife with a fractured skull.

The motive for the attack was unclear.

"I actually seen a guy nude," said neighbor Gabriel Camarena. "I'd seen her just kind of laying there and I came outside and he started running."

Neighbor Patricia Hernandez said she and her husband were startled from their sleep by Arzu, who was demanding to be let in through their back door.

"My husband told me not to open the door but he was trying to beat it down to get in," Hernandez said in Spanish.

Neighbors chased Arzu into the Hernandez's backyard and cornered him until police arrived.

Hernandez said police tried to handcuff him but he fought them.

"He was very strong and very big and scary," Hernandez said.

Despite being hit with a stun gun twice, it took four officers to finally cuff the suspect.

"Typically in law enforcement, we associate someone who is acting violent and naked to be under the influence of a stimulant or narcotic," Mendez said.

Arzu is facing two counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated mayhem. He's at the hospital recovering from injuries he sustained during the incident.
