Martinez visited with troops, signed autographs and brought his message of hope to those at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, over the weekend.
And his story resonated with many of his fellow soldiers.
"You have your ups and you have your downs, and it's all about having that resiliency when it comes to that down period, and that's something you can take away from this story," said one soldier in attendance.
J.R suffered burns on 40 percent of his body in an I.E.D. explosion in Iraq.
But through weeks of rehabilitation he was able to work his way back, joining the cast of "All My Children," then going on to win "Dancing With The Stars."
