IRVINE, Calif. --Irvine is giving every city employee a bonus: While many local governments are burdened by debt, Irvine has a $14-million surplus.
So the city council voted last week to pass the money along to municipal employees.
Full-time workers get a $500 bonus.
Part-timers get up to $250.
Irvine's budget surplus is largely the result of increased sales tax revenue.
