Karina Smirnoff and baseball player Brad Penny have called off their wedding after being engaged for a year.
Smirnoff, 33, told OnTheRedCarpet.com special correspondent George Pennacchio of KABC Television that things are "a bit hard right now" but she's "hoping God has a plan in all this."
The couple had announced in October that they were postponing their wedding. Smirnoff, who was competing on "Dancing With The Stars" at the time, had said that it was impossible to plan the wedding when they hadn't seen each other in over two months.
Smirnoff and Penny, a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, began dating in October 2009 and became engaged in October 2010. The two were set to wed on January 21, 2012.
Smirnoff and former "All My Children" actor J.R. Martinez were named the champions of season 13 of "Dancing With The Stars" in November.
