Monrovia woman helps friend in need through Pay it Forward

MONROVIA, Calif.

Literally moments after bringing out a sign reading, "I'm giving away $500, ask me how," Lena did just that.

Lena walks with her friend Gloria at 6 a.m. every day. Gloria is deeply in debt and a fixed income, so the holiday season is especially tough for her.

We followed Fine to Lockheart's Monrovia home for the big surprise.

Lockheart seemed stunned.

"I'm paying it forward and you have been selected for a Christmas bonus, paying it forward $500," said Fine.

"Oh my God I can't believe this, thank you," said Lockheart. "It feels great. I am just so happy."

Lockheart had already told her granddaughter there wouldn't be any Christmas presents this year. But with her money in hand, that's going to change.

"I've been so stressed lately," said Lockheart. "I'm going to be OK. I will make it, I know I will."

For Fine, giving never felt so good.

"I feel like Mrs. Claus and I did something good today," said Fine.

And Lockheart can't stop smiling.

"We love Channel 7," said Lockheart. "I always watch Channel 7, I really do."

Fine and Lockheart show what friendship and the holiday spirit is all about- that the gift of giving is the best gift anyone can give.
