LA teachers approve agreement to run their own schools

LOS ANGELES

The deal gives teachers wide-ranging decision-making power in running their schools.

Under the pact, charter operators won't take over low performing schools.

Instead, teachers and administrators will be allowed charter-like autonomy to write their own management plans for individual schools.

The teachers' union said nearly 70 percent of its members voted in favor of the agreement.
