Former LAFD captain gets 15 years to life

LOS ANGELES

David Del Toro, 55, was convicted of killing Jennifer Flores at his Eagle Rock home in 2006 and dumping her naked and bloody body about a mile away.

During the trial, he denied killing Flores, but said he was so drunk the day she died, he could not remember everything that happened.

Del Toro denied that he had any romantic interest in Flores, but Deputy District Attorney Bobby Grace told jurors in his closing argument that Del Toro "tried to have sex with" Flores, killed her after "she said no" and "counted on the cover of darkness to hide his crime."

Del Toro was acquitted of first-degree murder, but was found guilty of second-degree murder.

Del Toro did not speak during the sentencing hearing on the advice of his attorney, who said an appeal would be filed.
