An encouraging sign for California's economy: the state's unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level in more than two and a half years.

Last month, the jobless rate fell to 11.3 percent as the state added 6,600 new jobs.

In October, 11.7 percent of Californians were out of work.

Last year, the unemployment rate was 12.5 percent.

California has added more than 211,000 jobs since the start of this year.

Still, more than 2 million people remain out of work in the state.
