Kevin Federline and Britney Spears' marriage might not have gone as planned, but the former back-up dancer says he is happy for his ex-wife's recent engagement to Justin Trawick.
"I'm really happy for her -- I think he's a great guy," Federline told Australia's TV Week.
Federline is in Australia, filming the reality series "Excess Baggage," their version of "VH1's Celebrity Fit Club," on which Federline was also a contestant. The 33-year-old father of five gained a reported 85 pounds following his divorce from Spears.
"I want to say she's in a good place," Federline continued. "I haven't spoken to her much since I've been over here -- both of us have been busy with her being on tour -- but I do know from talking to the kids and talking to the kids' teachers that they're doing really good. It's a good step in the right direction. I'm totally happy for her."
Federline recently welcomed his fifth child, daughter Jordan with his girlfriend, former professional volleyball player turned special education teacher Victoria Prince.
"It's really good once you're able to move on with life," he says. "I mean, Victoria's the best person in the world. It took me going through the things that I went through to find a person like her," Federline said. "She's more than I could ever have hoped for. Hopefully Britney feels the same way."
Federline also has two sons with Spears, Sean Preston, 6, and Jayden James, 5, and a 9-year-old daughter named Kori and 7-year-old son named Kaleb with ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson, who starred alongside singer Brandy in the comedy series "Moesha."
Spears got engaged to her former agent, Jason Trawick on December 15, Trawick confirmed the news, telling Access Hollywood, "Yes, we are engaged... [We are] over the moon."
The newly-engaged couple celebrated the occasion and Trawick's 40th birthday a few days later in Las Vegas, at the Chateau Night Club.
Spears, 30, wrote on Twitter on December 17, "Tonight was one of the most magical nights of my life. Such an amazing time with my new fiancé and our closest friends and family. #Blessed"
Trawick and Spears have been dating since the summer of 2009. Prior to that, the two had a professional relationship as Trawick was Spears' manager. The two ended their professional ties in May 2010 to "focus on their personal relationship."
Trawick recently appeared in Spears' "Criminal" music video, where he plays a bad boy that Spears' character shacks up with to escape an abusive relationship and live out a Bonnie and Clyde style romance.
This will mark Spears' third marriage, following her union to childhood friend Jason Alexander in 2004 (which was annulled within 55 hours) and her two and a half year marriage to Federline, which ended in 2007.
Spears has in recent years rebuilt an image many thought was forever tarnished by rehab stints for substance abuse, excessive partying and a now-infamous head-shaving incident from 2007.
Federline opened up about that period in Spears' life, admitting that it was difficult for him as well.
"I had to do what I had to do for the safety of our children. But at the same time, it tears my heart to pieces to watch your ex go through that, let alone watch anybody go through that, Federline told TV Week. "It's horrible. It was a completely dramatic, depressing stage of my life that I'm so glad I'm over and get to leave behind. It was tough."
