OTRC: Kardashian family accused of using sweatshops for fashion line

The Kardashian family is being accused of manufacturing their upscale fashion line in Chinese sweatshops and claim they're "investigating" the matter.

"This is the first we are hearing about it and take it very seriously as we would never condone this," the Kardashian's rep Jill Fritzo told Radar Online. "We are presently investigating the situation."

Star magazine revealed that a Human Rights watch organization has launched an investigation into the working conditions of the factories where the reality stars' K-Dash by Kardashian label and Kris Jenner Kollection are manufactured. Both lines are sold on the home-shopping network QVC. They are also looking into ShoeDazzle, a company which Kim cofounded.

According to Star magazine, all three lines are manufactured in regions in China where "government regulations are often ignored and workers are subject to inhumane conditions."

Executive director of China Labor Watch Li Qiang told Star, "People like the Kardashians are producing their products in China because they will get more profit, since the labor cost is so low compared to the United States and other countries."

The weekly claims that workers in the factories earn $1 an hour and work in non-air conditioned factories which are compared to minimum-security prisons.

The executive director of the Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights Charles Kernaghan described the horrific conditions of factories in the Guangdong region of China and urged the family to manufacture their products elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the Kardashian family revealed their annual Christmas card on Monday and Khloe has organized a toy drive on Wednesday for the Children's Hospital of Dallas, where she moved with her husband Lamar Odom.

And though Kim Kardashian was voted the most ill-mannered person of 2011 by the National League of Junior Cotillions for "making a private matter public and disrespecting the institution of marriage," the family is still very popular to TV viewers.

"Kim & Kourtney Take New York," the latest chapter in the Kardashian reality saga, premiered on Sunday, November 27, and was watched by almost 3.2 million people, marking a 6 percent rise from last year. Last year's premiere of the series, a spin-off of E!'s "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," was watched by about 3 million viewers.
