MTA offers free rides on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve

LOS ANGELES

On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, it will cost nothing to ride the bus, subway, or Metro-operated light rail between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Those are considered the peak hours for deadly drunk driving crashes.

The mayor reminds everyone that driving drunk could cost thousands of dollars for an arrest, or even worse.

"An accident could cost your or someone else's life, but the MTA is free on those two evenings, so there's no excuses, absolutely none, for driving drunk this holiday season," Mayor Villagraigosa said in a press conference.

Villaraigosa even suggested taking public transportation to midnight mass.
