184K travelers fly out of LAX on busiest day

December 22, 2011 12:00:00 AM PST
More than 2.9 million travelers will pass through Los Angeles International Airport during the holiday travel surge, which ends Jan. 3.

Thursday was the busiest day as more than 184,000 passengers flew out the nation's fifth busiest airport.

Friday will be another busy day, so give yourself extra time if you're flying out of LAX.

"I'm from Temecula and it took me three hours to get here," Melisa Mickelson said. "Traffic from the parking lot to here took me about a half an hour, so it's a little crazy."

So far, there have been no weather-related problems at LAX. But in Colorado, a substantial dumping of snow caused delays and cancelations at Denver's airport.

Severe weather in the South and a storm system that's making its way to the Atlanta area could hamper air travel.
