Strong winds knock down power lines, trees across Southern California

FONTANA, Calif.

Gusts reached up to 70 mph overnight in some areas. A high-wind warning was in effect across most of Southern California, including the coastal areas, valleys and mountains, through 1 p.m. Friday.

According to SCE, 1,434 customers lost power in Corona early Friday morning due to equipment problems. Twelve customers in Lake Forest and 75 in unincorporated Los Angeles County also temporarily lost electricity.

The winds caused problems for drivers of high-profile vehicles on Thursday. Two tractor-trailers were knocked over, but there were no major injuries.

In Fontana, powerful gusts knocked over trash cans, holiday decorations and fences.

A 40-foot pine tree toppled onto a street in Glendale. Six homes were evacuated as the tree made its slow descent to the ground.

Crews worked around the clock to clear debris from the roads.

Many residents are still recovering from the strong windstorm that hit the Southland three weeks ago.

Downed trees and branches left thousands of San Gabriel Valley residents without power for days.
