Robert De Niro, 68, and his wife, Grace Hightower, have welcomed a baby girl via a surrogate mother.
The actor's spokesperson confirmed the news in a statement to OnTheRedCarpet.com on Friday, December 23.
"A daughter has been born to Robert and Grace Hightower De Niro," he said. "The healthy 7 pound, 2 ounce girl, named Helen Grace Hightower De Niro, was born through a surrogate mother."
Further details about the birth were not provided, for privacy reasons. The baby is the couple's second child together. De Niro and his wife, who is 56 years old, also have a 13-year-old son named Elliot.
De Niro, an Oscar winner known for movies such as "The Godfather: Part II" and the recently-released, celebrity-packed romantic comedy "New Year's Eve," married Hightower in 1997. She is his second wife.
The actor has four children from previous relationships. He and his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, are parents to a 35-year-old son named Raphael, who works as a real estate broker. The actor also adopted Abbott's daughter, Drena, 40. De Niro has 16-year-old twin sons, Aaron and Julian, with ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith, a former model.
