The incident occurred Friday night at a residence near Mission Boulevard and Pipeline Avenue. When authorities arrived on the scene, the structure was fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters were able to rescue a man who told them his wife was still inside. Her body was found a short time later.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital with severe burns.
It's not clear what caused the explosion and fire. Arson investigators were on scene to determine if there was any criminal activity.
