Good deals in stores for last-minute holiday shoppers

LOS ANGELES

It's projected that 24 million Americans waited until the day before Christmas to finish shopping for gifts.

Retailers made their final push to lure shoppers inside their stores by extending hours and slashing prices.

"There are some great deals. If you're patient, you can get a lot of shopping done today," said Shoshana Puccia, marketing director of Glendale Galleria. "It is worth braving the crowds."

The holiday shopping season was better than expected, according to recent reports. Stores aer expected to ring up nearly $470 billion this season.

"We have seen an increase in traffic. We won't know the sales until the beginning of next year, but we do predict that we've seen about a 4 to 5 percent increase in sales overall," said Puccia. "Retailers are very happy. They made a lot of efforts to increase their sales."

Macy's, for example, stayed open until 2 a.m. for the last three days. Also, Target and Toys-R-Us stayed open until 10 p.m. on Saturday.
