Debra Messing has been romantically linked to her "Smash" co-star Will Chase, just a week after it was announced that she had separated from her husband.
An insider from the NBC musical series confirmed to People magazine that Messing is dating Chase, who recently separated from his wife of two years, Broadway actress Stephanie Gibson.
Chase, 41, and Gibson are getting a divorce and have no children. The actor, who recently appeared on the ABC series "Pan Am," has two daughters from a previous marriage.
"It all happened very fast and it's a difficult situation," the insider told the weekly, adding that the pair has been openly dating for about six weeks.
It was announced on December 20 that Messing and her husband Daniel Zelman separated earlier in the year after being married for more than 10 years.
Messing and Zelman have one child - a 7-year-old son named Roman.
Chase is best known for his work on Broadway, most notably for portraying Roger in the final Broadway company of "Rent." He has also appeared on series like "Rescue Me," "Cupid," "Law & Order," and "Blue Bloods."
Messing, 43, is known for her former role on the long-running comedy series "Will & Grace" and stars opposite Chase in the new NBC musical series "Smash," which began filming in New York City in the summer.
"Smash" stars "American Idol" season 3 finalist Katharine McPhee as a young actress from Iowa who hopes to land the part of Marilyn Monroe in a new Broadway musical about the life of the Hollywood sex icon.
Messing plays songwriter Julia Houston, who co-wrote the show's lyrics, while Anjelica Huston portrays a producer named Eileen Rand. Chase portrays a character named Stephen who is "a man from Julia's past."
"Smash" is set to premiere on Feb. 6, 2012. Watch a trailer for the series below.
