The ashes were taken from a car in Lynn Merchant's driveway in August.
She figured the thief took them because they were in the type of pouch one might keep jewelry in.
At the time, Merchant was upset but also a little bemused, saying this was typical of things that used to happen to her husband, Bob.
But during the week of Christmas, the ashes suddenly turned up on her front porch, apparently left there anonymously by the thief.
