Rancho Palos Verdes death ruled a suicide

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif.

Authorities released little information about the fatal stabbing, but it appears that it was a domestic dispute that escalated.

Police say the wife of the victim called 911 at about 1 a.m. reporting a domestic dispute. When investigators arrived to the home on the 5900 block of Flambeau Road, they found 40-year-old John Lewis Depizzo dead.

Detectives say Depizzo died from self-inflicted stab wounds. A gun and knife were found inside the home.

Deputies say Depizzo was assaulting his wife and possibly used a gun to hit her. It's unclear if the gun ever went off. The wife was transported to a local hospital for injuries including trauma to her head and cuts on the body.

"I don't know her condition at this time, but her injuries aren't believed to be life threatening," said Lt. Dave Dolson of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

A 7-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl were inside the home at the time of the incident. They were not injured, but they have been removed from the residence.

Authorities say police have been called several times to the residence for domestic disturbances.
